The Family Program at HealthCare Connection is a comprehensive program which involves the clients and their families from the beginning of treatment until long after discharge. The family program consists of seven on-going weekly groups, six Intensive Family Weekends per year, and adjunct specialty groups such as our Couples Group to assist with transition for the clients and family after treatment.
The Family Program is under the direction of Dr. Stacy Daughn, a full-time licensed psychologist, certified in addictions and specializing in family systems and womens' issues. Clients and family interface with HCC's entire multidisciplinary treatment team, producing an outcome of recovery for the entire family system.
Research shows that family members and significant others are severely affected by the disease of addiction. Our Family Program is designed to address the needs of people who will be involved with our clients on their journey of recovery.
HCC has always recognized the needs of the family and its impact on the client's recovery as well as the family's recovery. The understanding that addiction is a family disease, and that the client has a more favorable prognosis for recovery when their families are involved with the treatment process, underlies the philosophy at HCC.
The weekly family therapy groups, which are facilitated by a licensed clinician, include family orientation classes, parenting groups, communication skills groups, advanced family groups, childrens' groups, and couples groups. In addition, HCC conducts six Intensive Family Weekends per year in which clients and families benefit from educational lectures and experiential group work. One of the primary goals of the Family Program is to help families understand the disease process of addiction and identify the role each plays in the addiction cycle. This is accomplished through the readings, therapy groups and support of 12 step programs such as Al-Anon, AA and NA.
